How to Start an Early Morning Routine (Boosted Energy & Productivity)

Have you always wanted to establish an early morning routine but are unsure of how exactly to go about it?

Here we have 8 top tips to help to learn how to have a productive morning, each morning.

#1 – Become a Morning Person

Kick-starting our list of ways that you can establish the best morning routine for energy and productivity is to become a morning person.

Granted, this is easier said than done and so this point has some additional ideas on how you can achieve this:

  • Set your arm 10-minutes earlier each day until you naturally wake at a time that you like.
  • Take up at least 2 hours earlier than you normally would and go to sleep earlier that night. This will help you to establish a good night’s sleep routine and help you to become a morning person.
  • When you wake, do a small activity to train your mind to be active from the get-go.

Early morning productivity is difficult for many people, which is why training your mind and body to become a morning person is a great way to start the day.

That way, you’re switched on from the moment that you wake, thus enabling you to complete more tasks during the day and be more proactive.

#2 – Drink a Pint of Water Before Getting Up

With the previous point in mind, another way that you can establish an early morning routine is to drink a pint of water before you get up for the day.

After being asleep for several hours, you haven’t consumed any water.

It’s even likely that you haven’t consumed any water for an extra hour or two during the time of getting ready for bed.

When you wake in the morning, your body will crave water even if you don’t necessarily feel as though you need it.

Water is essential for cell function and dehydration can lead to reduced energy levels, and brain function. This is absolutely NOT what we need when we want to establish the best morning routine for energy and productivity.

Therefore, you should make sure that you have a glass of water next to you bed in preparation for the morning

#3 – Make Your Bed

Next up on our list of ways you can start an early morning routine is to make your bed.

Yes, this may sound a little silly, however, it’s a huge way that you can start the day with a productive mindset.

Making the bed is one of the first things that most people do and you’ll feel a small sense of accomplishment that you’ve taken the time to tidy something and make your space look nice.

Plus, many people live by the following quote:

“A tidy room is a tidy mind.”

If your living space is tidy and clean, so is your mind, thus helping to put you into the right mindframe before beginning a busy day.

With that, perhaps you’re someone who started reading this blog post wanting to know how to have a productive morning before school or work…

Simply making your bed will help to start your day on the right foot and put you into a positive and productive headspace.

#4 – Meditation & Yoga

You may have expected that doing meditation and/or yoga at the beginning of your day is one of our morning routine ideas.

If so, you clearly guessed right!

Starting your day with meditation can completely shift your vibrational level and allow you to think more optimistically compared with those who don’t meditate.

Plus, mornings are often a time where people can feel a little anxious about the day ahead, however, both activities can help you to feel more relaxed as they activate your parasympathetic nervous systems.

So, if you want to get some morning routine ideas, meditation and yoga are fantastic ways to prepare you for a busy day ahead.

#5 – Avoid Snoozing

Snoozing in the morning is a one-way ticket to feeling sluggish and unmotivated for several hours.

Yes, when the alarm goes off, the temptation to hit snooze can be irresistible when in reality, if you just got up, you’d feel considerably more awake than if you spent an extra 20-minutes in bed.

Here are some tricks that you can exercise to avoid snoozing so that you can create the best morning routine for productivity:

  • Keep your slippers close to your bed so that you don’t experience walking on cold floors as this can make you want to hop straight back into bed.
  • Ask your partner to get up at the same time as you. We often want to stay in bed and snuggle up to our warm, cosy partners, however, if you both agree to get out of bed at the same time, this will help you to avoid snoozing.
  • Pre-set your coffee machine so that it automatically turns on at the time that you wake. This will send sweet, rich aromas of coffee around your home and push you to get out of bed.

Ultimately, if you’re on the hunt for morning routine ideas, avoiding snoozing is a huge habit to snap out of.

#6 – Enjoy a Cup of Caffeine

As you probably already know, getting you caffeine-fix is an absolute must for having a productive day.

To those that don’t need caffeine – I bow down to you!

As your alarm wakes you in the morning, knowing that a cup of tea or coffee awaits will hopefully give you a push to get out of bed.

Either will help you to start your morning right and help to blow away the cobwebs.

Plus, enjoying a warm cup of coffee in the morning provides a great opportunity to speak to your partner, family members, friends, and/or pets before the day begins.

This will also help you boost your mood and begin your day right.

#7 – Write To-Do Lists

Another way that you can establish good morning habits is to write to-do lists.

Knowing exactly what you’re to do each day will make it easier to do them.

Psychological studies have been conducted and found that writing down your ideas and thoughts with pen to paper helps you to visualise them more clearly.

You can always prioritise them in terms of importance and work your way downwards.

The more items that you tick off, the more satisfied that you’ll feel about your productivity and thus boost your mood that you’ve managed to tick everything off that you needed to do that day.

Even when you can’t be bothered to finish the list, try your hardest to be consistent with yourself and don’t put things off as this will only result in various things piling up in your mind and it can get overwhelming.

At the end of the day, a fantastic way to establish an early morning routine is to make lists with the aim of enhancing productivity.

#8 – Practice Affirmations

Affirmations are all the rage at the moment but what are they and what do they achieve?

Positive affirmations are positive thoughts and are to be told to yourself in order to adopt a more optimistic perspective about yourself, the world, and others.

Many also believe that practising positive affirmations helps your wants and wishes to come true as you’re exercising the good messages you’re putting out to the world which, in turn, will achieve self-actualisation.

One of the first things that you’re going to want to do when you wake in the morning is to practice affirmations.
